Monday 20th June – Afternoon Rain

Evening everyone, Christine here, reporting back from Jim and Barry, our intrepid rangers on the hill today. They had a surprisingly good day at Collard, before having to retreat around 3pm, when the heavy rain started again. It was another overcast, but warm morning, with short sunny spells when Large Blues became active. The morning transect recorded a very respectable 13 Blues, with the Eastern Glade, main track and quarry area getting most sightings. The weather looks set to remain warm but overcast on Tuesday, with more sunny spells expected later in the week. Good numbers are still flying, and the weather conditions mean the butterflies should be living a little longer so do come and catch them while the sun is out!

Some great photos are still coming in, thanks to Winston Plowes and Michael Chambers for sending in these pictures from their visits to Collard.

The Wasp orchids are still getting lots of interest from visitors, and remain in good condition, do take a stroll past them if you are visiting soon. Thanks to Stewart Canham for this lovely shot of one of the Wasp spikes.
